Beagle Adoption
Beagle adoption is an exciting time for a family. By now you
have already made a decision to adopt a beagle. Beagles are a
great choice for families with children. Beagles are easy going
and get along great with children and other pets. They are also
a small breed dogs, so if you don't have a huge house that is
fine.
Here are some questions you need to ask your self or others
in your search for finding a great beagle puppy or dog.
What age of beagle do I want to adopt?
Do you wan to adopt a puppy or an adult beagle, both have
their advantages and disadvantages. Puppies are very cute, but
you have to go through the trouble of housebreaking them and
training them. Adults are great because likely they are already
trained and housebroke. Also with adults they likely already
have all their vaccinations and are already spayed or neutered
which can save you a lot of money.
Where to adopt a beagle from?
There are lots of places you can adopt a dog from. The most
common places are shelters and pets stores. But if you want a
purebred beagle for show or just because this is what you want
then your best chances of finding a great beagle is through a
breeder.
Beagle rescues are another great place to find beagles that
need great homes. Also with rescues you can usually purchase
the dogs much cheaper than if you buy through a breeder.
What to look for when adopting a beagle
When you go to adopt your dog you need to be looking out for
several things. Although you are not a veterinarian you can at
least give a very brief physical exam on your own. The dog
should be bright and alert, with no signs of diarrhea or
vomiting. The eyes, ears, nose, and mouth should not have any
discharge or strange odors. The hair coat should be nice and
shiny. The abdomen should not have a pot belly shape.
What do I do after I adopt my beagle?
After you adopt your dog you should take it to the
veterinarian in 72 hours for a physical examination to make
sure the dog is healthy. Most breeders will only guarantee that
the dog will be healthy for the next 48 hours.
After that you can start loving and training your new dog!
Once you have one beagle you'll want another one soon. Beagle
adoption can be a great and rewarding experience for your whole
family.
