Beagle Back Injury
Information on Beagle Back Injuries
Beagle back injury are usually caused by the vertebral
disc.
The disc looks like a donut and cushions the vertebrae,
which are bone. Between each vertebrae is a disc.
Sometimes this disc can move out of alignment and can
compress nerves and the spinal cord leading to paralysis or at
least lameness and severe pain.
Causes of spinal disc injuries in beagles can include things
like trauma, jumping out of vehicles or jumping off
furniture.
Even old age can make back injuries more likely. As the
beagle ages, the discs become drier and less flexible.
Beagle back injury is usually an emergency if there is
paralysis. Surgery must be done quickly if there is hope of
preventing permanent paralysis.
Steroids or other anti-inflammatories are also usually given
to keep swelling done and preventing further nerve damage.
If your beagle has a back injury take them to the veterinary
clinic right away.
