Types of Beagles
How many beagle breeds are there? There are only one. But
according to the American Kennel Club there are two
varieties.
The first one Thirteen Inch. This is for beagles not
exceeding 13 inches at the shoulders.
The second beagle variety is the Fifteen inch. This is for
hounds over 13 inches but not exceeding 15 inches.
Any beagle exceeding 15 inches is disqualified.
Beagle are in the AKC hound group.
Beagle colors that are considered standard are:
Black and tanBlack and whiteBlack tan and bluetickBlack
tan and whiteBlack white and tanBlue tan and whiteBrown and
whiteBrown white and tanLemon and whiteRed and whiteTan and
white
Standard beagle markings are called Ticked, any other
markings are considered alternates.
