Facts About The Beagle

Good beagle information is vital for you if you are trying to decide if you want to adopt a beagle puppy or if you just have a beagle problem and need an answer.

Beagles are in the AKC hound group. They are a small to medium sized well muscled dog. Beagles make great family dogs and are great with children.

Beagles love exercise and need a family with a large house and large back yard. They do not do well in small apartments.

They love companionship and if left alone can suffer from behavior problems or separation anxiety, causing them to tear the house apart.

Beagle history tells us that they were derived from several different breeds of hound dogs and were bred to hunt rabbits. They originated in England a few hundred years ago and mainly kept by upper class British citizens.

Beagles came to the United States in the 1830s and were recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1887. Beagles are currently the 5th most popular dog breed in the United States. The have consistently been in the top ten dog breeds for decades.

Once of the most famous beagles of all time was Snoopy. It was a cartoon character in the Charlie Brown comic strip.

Beagles are healthier than most dogs on average but due have a few disease that are unique to them. Once of them is Beagle Pain Syndrome. This is usually seen as neck pain the beagle. It is an immune mediated disease and is usually seen in beagles about one year of age.

It is important to collect as much beagle information as possible before making any decisions about adopting a beagle. They are one of the all time favorite dog breed for good reason. Most dog breeds tend to be popular every once in a while, but the beagle is always a popular dog.
