Beagle Temperament

A Great Family Dog

Beagle temperament makes for a great family dog. There is a reason why the beagle is one of Americas most popular dog breeds.

The beagle was originally bred to be a hunting dog for rabbits and other small game. Originally from England, it came over to the United States in the 1830s.

The beagle temperament is one in which it loves packs. Whether the packs are made up of people or other dogs, they love company. Beagles really hate being along and can suffer from behavior problems or separation anxiety if left alone for too long.

The beagle was bred to be single minded as well. This is great for hunting, because it take a lot of attention to follow a scent trail. Unfortunately if you are trying to keep a beagles attention during training session you might become frustrated.

If you are going to train your beagle puppy, then do it in a quiet area where there are few distractions and keep the training sessions short.

Beagles love to exercise. They do not like to stay in small apartments or small houses. A family with a large house and a large fenced in yard would be ideal for a beagle. If you donÕt keep your beagle occupied with activates, it could turn to destructive behaviors and tear apart your house.

Another unique feature of the beagle temperament is the bark or howl. Beagles were bred to howl when they found rabbits or other small game. Each beagle has a unique howl, and skilled beagle pack owners can actually tell which beagle is which just by the bark.

As you can see the beagle temperament could be described as mild.
