Beagle With Pyometra

What is pyometra?
Pyometra is an accumulation of pus in the uterus. It is
usually causes by bacterial infection, but can be causes by a
condition called cystic endometrial hyperplasia.
What are the clinical signs?
Most commonly owners see a vaginal discharge. Sometimes if
the pyometra is closed, then there is no discharge seen. Dog
can become toxic very quickly in these situations so prompt
veterinary care is needed.
Other clinical signs include not eating, depression, painful
abdomen, and diarrhea to name a few.
What is the treatment?
Most commonly the treatment is removal of the uterus, iv
fluids, and antibiotics.
