Tips On Training A Beagle

Beagle Training Tips

Tips on training a beagle are helpful because as a breed they can present some unique challenges to the dog owner. If you have never owned any other dog, and this is your first one, realize a beagle is slightly harder to train than other dogs.

Beagles are known to be harder to train than other dogs because they are very single minded. They can become distracted easily and once they lose focus on you the training session is over.

Here are 5 tips on training a beagle:

1.Keep the sessions brief. Especially if you are training a beagle puppy. Short sessions, usually less than 10 minutes are ideal. Any longer than this and the beagle looses interest.

2.Keep the sessions to the point. Plan out ahead of time what you are going to do. If you donÕt know what you are going to cover, your dog wonÕt either. Keep the training sessions to teaching only one new command or trick.

3.Perform multiple training sessions a day. Repetition is the mother of skill. Keep the training sessions short and repeat them three to four times a day.

4.Perform the dog training sessions in a quiet room or area. Since beagles can become distracted do training sessions in a quiet room with no other puppies or people. If there are not distractions in the room, they are more likely to only focus on what you are doing.

5.If you or your dog donÕt feel like training then donÕt do it. Trying to train when you or your dog are tired only leads to frustration. Take a break and try again later in the day, or first thing tomorrow morning.

Many people will be able to give you tips on training a beagle, but ultimately you have to use the tips that work for you and your dog. There are not right and wrong ways to train a dog. You have to find a way that your beagle learns the fastest.

To learn how your beagle learns the best you have to experiment. Experiment with different training techniques and methods and keep a dog training journal. It doesnÕt have to contain a lot of information, but just make a few quick notes about each session and what is working and not working.

This beagle dog training journal is a great treasure to have. After a few months read through it and youÕll be amazed at how far your beagle has progressed in training what new tips on training a beagle you might have.
