Training Beagle Puppies

Puppy Training Guidelines

Training beagle puppies can be lot of work and require some patience. Do not start training your dog before 7 to 8 weeks of age. Before this age they will likely not learn at all and you will only get frustrated.

Some people recommend to not training your puppy before 4 months of age, but this would only work if they stay outside, because if your puppy is inside you have to almost start housebreaking them, which is a form of training immediately.

Puppies do respond to learning about housebreaking so they should respond to traditional training like the teaching of basic commands.

Beagles are notorious for being more difficult to train than other dogs, but they are trainable, it just requires a little be more time. Also some beagles learn extremely quickly so it is important to not generalize all beagles as being hard to train.

When you start training beagle puppies try to isolate them in an area where it is just you and the puppy. If you have several puppies together, the training session will not go as well and last too long. Keep the training sessions short, less than 10 minutes, but try to do them several times a day.

Start off with the basic sit command when training beagle puppies. This is a great first command to master and can incorporated into other training exercises as well.

View your training sessions as building blocks where each session builds off the next. The first few minutes of the training session should be a review of the previous training session to reinforce where you are at with commands.

Remember that puppies are like children, and you have to expect them to make mistakes. If you have this view in mind you are less likely to get frustrated.

If you feel yourself becoming frustrating during training beagle puppies, take break or end that session and pick up during the next session.

Remember it is important to isolate the puppy during training sessions so that there are no distractions, many new dog owners do not understand this concept when training beagle puppies.
